On 28 April 2021, an online meeting of the heads of parliaments of the IPA CIS countries, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Korea, China, Iran, Turkey, Japan and other countries was held on the topic: “The role of parliamentarians in strengthening international peace and Confidence ", timed to the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s independence, the 25th anniversary of its permanent neutrality, as well as the announcement, based on the resolution of the United Nations General Assembly, 2021 - the International Year of Peace and Confidence.
The Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva took part in the meeting, organized by the Mejlis of Turkmenistan.
Issues on enhancing the role of parliamentarians in strengthening international peace and trust, as well as developing inter-parliamentary relations between the countries were discussed.
It was noted that in recent years, the foreign policy of our country is aimed at strengthening friendship, mutual trust, good-neighborliness and partnership with foreign states.
The importance of parliamentary diplomacy to support the efforts of countries to develop interstate relations in the interests of maintaining peace and trust was emphasized.
The parties expressed interest in regularly holding joint events and programs for the preservation, broad promotion of a culture of peace and trust between states, agreed to strengthen international dialogue and inter-parliamentary cooperation.
As part of this event, the final document of the meeting of the heads of parliaments "The Role of Parliamentarians in Strengthening International Peace and Confidence" was adopted, which provides for the active use of preventive diplomacy tools based on multilateralism and political dialogue.
