On 16 November 2020, in Warsaw (Poland), Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov took part in the Ministerial Conference on the Promotion of Religious Freedoms and made a video message to delegates.
The head of the Foreign Ministry of Uzbekistan informed the participants about the experience of our country in ensuring religious freedom, as well as consistent implementation of the international obligations assumed by the republic in this direction.
It was emphasized that the theme of the conference corresponds to the spirit of the deep democratic reforms carried out by the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, aimed at ensuring the rights and freedoms of citizens, their religious beliefs.
The concrete measures taken in the republic in a short period in the sphere of strengthening freedom of religion were noted. In particular, the development of the draft Law "On freedom of conscience and religious organizations" in a new edition, taking into account the norms of international law and the best democratic standards, simplification of procedures for state registration of religious associations, holding for the first time in the history of the country parliamentary hearings on monitoring the freedom of religion and belief.
The Minister also stressed that one of the effective ways to ensure religious freedom and interethnic harmony in society is to strengthen the culture of tolerance, as well as to actively promote education and enlightenment.
The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan expressed confidence that this important forum would be another successful step in consolidating international efforts to promote the protection of human rights to freedom of religion.
