New Italian Ambassador to Uzbekistan begins work

Uzbekistan's Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov has accepted copies of credentials from the new Italian Ambassador, Guido de Sanctis. "I will work on strengthening political dialogue, economic and cultural cooperation, and expanding opportunities for business and citizens," the new head of the diplomatic mission stated previously.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Bakhtiyor Saidov accepted copies of credentials from the newly appointed Ambassador of Italy, Guido de Sanctis, the head of the Foreign Ministry reported on his Telegram channel.

The parties discussed bilateral cooperation, in particular the expansion of trade, investment, and economic ties. They emphasised the importance of developing partnership and encouraging contacts between business circles.

"It is a great honour for me to begin my mission in Tashkent with accreditation also in Tajikistan. I will work to strengthen political dialogue, economic, scientific, and cultural cooperation, institutional exchanges, as well as expand opportunities for enterprises and citizens, including within the framework of the 'Italy – Central Asia' initiative," the new ambassador stated after his appointment.

Guido de Sanctis graduated from the Faculty of Political Science at the LUISS University of Rome and joined the diplomatic service in 1991. He worked at the Italian embassies in Libya, Ukraine, Switzerland, and Russia, as well as within the structure of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He also served as the Italian Ambassador to Qatar, worked as the coordinator of the OSCE mission in Albania, and later as a diplomatic advisor to the Italian Minister of Defence. He began his work in Tashkent on 5 January.

It should be noted that since mid December, the reception of citizens at the Italian Embassy in Tashkent has been suspended, specifically the work of the consular window and the visa department. The reason cited was "force majeure related to the suitability of the embassy building for operation." Information regarding the resumption of services is planned to be announced additionally.
