Presidents of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan reaffirm commitment to full-scale bilateral cooperation

02.05.2024

The key event of the past week in the foreign policy activities of the Republic of Uzbekistan was the state visit of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the Republic of Tajikistan on 18-19 April 2024.

The trip of the head of our state to the neighboring republic was important for further strengthening the friendship of two close peoples.

Tashkent and Dushanbe have embarked on a new stage of multifaceted cooperation, characterized by a high level of mutual understanding and trust. In particular, following meetings and negotiations, Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Emomali Rahmon signed an Agreement on Allied Relations, which marked a new historical milestone in bilateral relations.

The agreement, which represents “the highest and most reliable level of interstate contacts,” demonstrates the parties’ readiness to stand firmly shoulder to shoulder in solving common problems, and will also become a conceptual basis for taking relations to a qualitatively new trajectory.

The document not only defines the foundations and specific areas of interaction between the two states, but is also of key importance in ensuring peace, stability and security in Central Asia.

Undoubtedly, this trend of good neighborliness, which is becoming sustainable, did not arise out of nowhere; it was the result of consistent joint work of the two leaders, a painstaking search for mutually acceptable solutions to common problems. At the same time, the main condition for success was a strategic vision of the benefits of a trusting dialogue, an understanding of the direction in which regional ties should develop.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Emomali Rahmon constantly note in their statements that only by joining forces and acting together will the peoples of the two countries be able to unlock their enormous creative potential and reach new horizons of sustainable and progressive development.
